Obama

Well- The Democrat Nomination Campaign is officially over.
My first choice- was Senator Edwards. He gave me the yummy fuzzies.
My second choice- Was Hillary- whom I voted for.
And now my last choice- by rule of elimination is Barack Obama.
I haven't necessarily hated Barack or ever been against him by any means.
Just preferred another candidate to him.
The only major issue that I have a different view than he does is United Health Care.
His view is for a voluntary health care system. Where I think that a mandated one would probably be best. But that is something I can get over. He might know better.
I mean the number one reason he should be President is because he just looks like a President. He is Handsome, and amazing speaker and he came from a single mother and was raised by his lovely Grandmother. I do think he is a good man. I think he just has a lack of experience in governing. He has only ever been a Senator, never a governor.
Anyways- I am rambling. I love the Historical Significance that him winning the Nomination brings. To think that only a generation ago Blacks were not allowed to do something as simple as have a seat on a bus. Now we have a serious Presidential bid won by a Black man. This makes me so happy that our country is making ground. A lot of people (myself included) have commented negatively on his lack of experience but after watching the news last night and seeing that historically the majority of President's were Governor's first.. I got to thinking.. Our country is not really in that great of shape after being ran by a bunch of experienced Governor's anyways. So maybe it is time for a breath of fresh air and some MAJOR change in DC. What are your thoughts?

pretty much ditto on everything you just wrote although obama was my number 2 after edwards. So anyway we need a change. I'm proud that we got this far with a WOMAN and a BLACK man this nation has come a long way. :)

Um, I think my vote will be between me & the booth! :) I was raised a republican, and Russ (although raised a democrat) is a severe right wing republican, so discussions about voting just get me into trouble. But I like some of Obama's ideas - if I can get past all the lies. I hope to learn more about him now that the boxing match is over for the nomination! Keep me posted on what you hear - I'd like a "democratic" viewpoint! I liked the idea of a woman for president though - maybe in 2012?!?

Thanks Paige- wasn't asking for who you voted for or who you were going to vote for- more just what your opinion was on a him and the historical significance of a black man being a President. :)

Also Paige and Gina- Thanks so much for your comments. Since I posted this yesterday I have had 34 hit and only the 2 comments from you ladies. Not trying to push politics on anyone or anything but sometimes its nice to know others opinions- helps us all think about things and get our brains working. And lets be serious- politics affect us women the most. So we need to be informed!

I guess the historical significance of an African American or a female candidate for president is lost on me. I don't care about gender or race, I just want the best person for the job. Even as a kid, I remember the big blah blah blah when Geraldine Ferraro was running and it just seemed lost on me at the time then too.

As for 'looking presidential' -- what I wouldn't give to see some personality out of these people. They're all so concerned about how they look on TV that they're afraid to show any real emotion. I saw Hillary the other night after losing the primaries and as she was speaking, her voice broke and you could tell she was heart broken. She wanted to much to be president. I was incredibly impressed by that. At last, a brief glimpse of the inner candidate. Too bad she's out of it.

Thanks for your points Jared. Now if I could just figure out who you are!

I love the historical significance of it. I mean, I think you're right -- it's not a reason to vote for a person, but it shows how far we've come.

For all the flack that Obama has got, I love him because he's real. He may be a millionaire now, but he started from a poor family. His wife did too. They are the American dream -- no matter their color of skin, and I can relate to that so much better than I can relate to John and Cindy, who are the rich because of beer and America's love of it!

I have other reasons, but that's what I'm saying right now! Sorry if this is too long! Love you girl!

Okay, my opinion will get me in trouble but her it goes. Actually nevermind it's way too long to put it all here. So check my blog if you dare for my full opinion on current politics. But on the historical stand point...

Yes, it is very significant that our counrty is at the point where a women or a black person have such as strong chance of winning the Presidential bid and than the Presidency but I also feel that these record turn out in primary voting is because of that.

I often wonder if the people voting for them are only voting for them because of their gender or ethnic background. It's so common with Barack supporter to say they are voting for him just because he is black. I know some are true believers of his policies and views but others are only voting for him because of the color of his skin and historical significance of a black man as US president.

So what will happen if Hilary gets on the card for Vice President?

Is everyone going to go running to the polls to vote Democrat just because they want to make some history?

A lot of this stems from the fact that so many Americans don't even care about or appreciate their right to vote. College student who are willing to sell their vote for an ipod and the masses that have never bother to vote or even register, these type of voters concern me.

Again I know some people really do believe in their Democratic Candidate, but what % is that?

Natalie- I totaly agree with being able to relate with the Obama's much more because of the way I was raised. Its nice to see people that literally came from nothing rise to the top and try to make a difference.
Kristy- good point- It could be that the record turn outs are for historical reveleance that their one vote might cause- but I don't see anything wrong with that- these people may not have felt that the previous candidates related to them in any fashion. I know I tend to like the candidates that are simliar to me and my upbringing.
I can only pray that Hillary gets the nod for VP and everyone rushes to the polls. That makes for a very strong ticket of people who care about the same things I do. And want to make some major changes.
Regardless- I think it is SUPER EXCITING!
Thanks for being my loyal commentors! LOL

Haha, I didn't realize what a barren wasteland my 'profile' was. It has been updated now - I'm more readily identifiable.

Jared- Now I know who you are! I agree with you BTW on Hillary's speech- besides all the "thank my supporters and visit Hillary.com" stuff" You could see she was devistated- and I know she may not come across as all warm and fuzzy on TV. But I have met her in person before- and she had a goodness about her. When I spoke to her she really cared- and I was just a 16 year old girl who was in awe of meeting The President and his family. I could feel that she cared.

If you notice at the bottom of my blog I have an Obama sticker. I like him because I can tell he is a good person. He hasn't been corrupted by the government. I like his in-experience, because the experience that we've seen over and over is brainwashed manipulative crap. It helps that he is a good speaker, and he is handsome, but I feel that he truly wants to help our country be better. Anyone can come bite my head off, but I'm married to a political science major so I hear a lot about everyone. Good and bad.

I think that you have some great insight Jess. I am swinging towards Obama...researching him more but he is a good man and I definitely agree that he LOOKS like a president. I did love his wife and him giving that fist pound as a congratulatory touch, that made them seem earthy and down to earth. Good thoughts from you..got me thinking:)!
